Unless this tree was somehow specifically modified to serve as a reproductive system for a species of fairy, it's the sort of thing you wouldn't expect to happen by itself. Raising, then, the question of "who modified the tree, and why". Assuming," he admits, "that my model of trees as a product of evolution instead of a product of... fairy... rules, is something other than a profound deception."
